RICHMOND'S MOST WANTED Apple Blossom Parade '2000

Naw, It's Chapter D's Gold Wingers at the Apple Blossom Parade '2000
From L to R: Norm Green (his camera & film), Bill Hubbard,
Kathy Hooper, Chuck Spain, Debbie & Murray Lee,
and our "Fearless Leader" Steve Whitmer.
Unfortunately, Sondra Green and Chris Hooper were off gallivanting
somewhere else and missed being in the Wanted Poster, (I mean picture).
Also, Linda Whitmer was at VA-E's function, giving rides
to some very "special" children.
Thanks to Norm for thinking of the photo, and thanks to Anita Rains (VA-U)
for capturing the caper for us.

Chapter D Rides the Polar Bear Run '2000 Congratulations To Those Brave Souls
Steve Whitmer, Chris Hooper, Carl Hooper, Eric Albert, Sean Albert, Ray McCauley rode the bikes to Virginia Beach.
Now for the list who rode in the cars: Linda Whitmer, Debbie Albert.
You guys make Chapter D PROUD!

Our Full Moon Ride to Blackstone, VA
We had a good sized group to show up at the Hardee's on Hull street.
We even had some faces we haven't seen on a ride in some time.
They were Norm & Sandy Green and Murray Lee
The other ten were: Steve & Linda Whitmer, Rick & Colleen Dean (in their car because Colleen isn't up to the two wheels yet), Larry & Marie Crow, Joe Marandina, Ken Kelly, Chuck Spain and Kathy Hooper.
Marie drove her car because she had a surprise birthday cake for Larry.
Ken did a great job of leading group #2 and
Chuck did a great job of riding drag for group #1.
It's really good to see these newer members jumping right in
and learning the ropes of group riding and leading.
If you want to hear more about our tour through Blackstone, come to the meeting
on Wednesday, July 28th at Piccadilly.

Ride to VA-R's Poker Run in Harrisonburg, VA
Saturday, May 22, 1999
We had six adventurous bikers that hit the road bright and early.
They were: Steve & Linda Whitmer, Ken & Patricia Kelly, Bill Hubbard and Kathy Hooper.
We all had a great day and Ken got to practice is Road Captain Skills by riding Drag on Rt. 33 to Harrisonburg.
He and Patricia did a fine job and all of us thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful morning and the beautiful scenery of Virginia.

GWRRA Road Captain Course

We had a full house! There was Bill Hubbard & Barbara Doane, Ted & Ethel Nelmes, Dave Collins & Sandra Jennings, Ken & Patricia Kelley, Chuck & JoAnn Spain, Marty Simon, Rick Dean, Joe Marandina, Kathy & Chris Hooper.

Aw, what more could you ask for?

Saturday, May 8 - We met up at the Rockville Texaco to ride to VA-P's Poker Run
for the road portion of the course.
Everyone except JoAnn Spain (had to work) and Marty Simon (family committment) were able to make the ride. So all of them will be receiving their Road Captain Rockers at our next meeting.
Congratulations to all nine of you!
Chapter D won the award for the largest chapter in attendance at the Poker Run, but VA-B won the VA Plaque. Rats!

Chapter D Participates in the Apple Blossom Festival Parade
On Saturday May 1, 1999 we met in the Ashland Cracker Barrel parking lot. It was chilly but the sun was shining bright and we were all excited and ready to get moving. From Chapter D we had Ricky, Colleen, Christopher & Jordan Dean, their friend Donna, Chris & Kathy Hooper, Ted & Ethel Nelmes, Ray & Ann McCaulley, Marty & Luba Simon, Vernon Cook, Ken Kelley, Charlie Croxton & Jung Yoon, Liz Schmick.
Johnny & Wanda Stancil were four wheeling it from Chapter W and another VA-W member was on his bike but I don't have his name.
We broke up into two major riding groups and off we rode!
We had a very uneventful ride (something every Educator likes to hear) with a stop half way for coffee and talk. We pulled into the K-mart parking lot and were met with a sea of Gold Wings! What a sight!
Thanks to Orin & Donna Thomas for putting this event together for VA GWRRA.

September 12, 1998 - Ride To VAM's
"Piggin -in-the-Park" - Martinsville

It was a gorgeous Saturday morning. Sun shining bright, temperature 75
degrees, not a cloud in the sky.
Only one distraction that morning. The RACES were in Town!
But there were four of us who were looking to Ride Our TWO-WHEELERS!
Steve Whitmer, Vernon Cook, Chris & Kathy Hooper met at the southside meeting place for some light breakfast and a few laughs before setting a course for Martinsville.
It was the most perfect day for riding that I have seen since early spring.
The four of us seemed to fall into an easy pace
that just made the miles float by.
By the time we reached Appomattox, the temp. had risen enough to require the removal of the top layer. So we decided, "What the heck, let's have a quick snack."
So We Did!

Back on the road again, we made good time to Martinsville.
When we pulled into Fisher Park we were met with many smiles,
waves and greetings from the crowd.
Chris was leading us through the parking area and threading his way between the many bikes when he came on the CB and said, "Let's use our new Parking Maneuver and really "Wow" the crowd."
That was fine with the rest of us, except that I (Kathy), could not decide where he was aiming for and panicked and pulled into the wrong spot.
I guess we will just have to work on it a little more.
Well, the day was full of hugs and smiles and laughs and FOOD.
Chapter M really puts on a great event!
By mid-afternoon it was time to saddle up and turn our ponies for home.
Again we had to stop in Appomattox for some lemonade and ice cream.
Then we passed Fred's Antique Cars and had to make a U-turn and go back and drool over the "Cruisin IN" beauties.
Steve made the suggestion that Fred's Antique Cars
would make a good ride destination next summer.
Yeah! Sounds like something to look forward to.
Back on the road again, there was much joking and laughing
as we rode through the last rays of the day.
What an absolutely beautiful way to end a perfect day!

Labor Day Parade in Powhatan
Better Known As the Tommy Broughton Parade

Way to go team! I know you did us proud in the parade!
September 4 - Moonlight Ride To Dinwiddie County
6:30 pm met at the Bermuda Square Shopping Center

A "Homeless Hearts" Delivery - a Dinner Run - a Moonlight Ride

Six Couples, Bill Hubbard, Barbara Doane, Eric Albert, Debbie Collins, Larry & Marie Crow, Bill & Chiffon Robinson, Ray & Ann McCauley, Chris & Kathy Hooper, met at the Burger King on Rt. 10 and spent some time drinking cokes and waiting for everyone to show up. At 6:45 pm we headed for the Baptist Children's Home in Chesterfield County. There we spent some time with a few of the children. They were very excited to get to sit on a bike and had many, many questions. Later, Marie Crow passed out popsicles and then she presented the Home with the "Homeless Hearts" we had collected. Marie also had some special goodies for the children and some grown-up goodies for the women. All-in-all it makes you really stop and think of how lucky we are to be able to cruise this life on a Gold Wing.
After we left the Home we motored around looking for a way out. Marie led us a merry chase through a few parking lots before she called for Larry to take the lead because "she didn't know where the heck we were." Isn't it funny how when you are with good friends, even the U-turns seem like an adventure?
We finally broke out of the woods and ended up at Pumpkins Restaurant where many of us had the homemade meatloaf. Come to find out, Chris Hooper thinks his mother's meatloaf is better than Kathy's. "Now what story do you think Kathy will come up with to tell on Chris?"
