Hello to all our friends
What a great year for us newbie’s on the block. Just want to say thank you to so many or our District Staff and members across the state that has been so patient with us. We had a lot to learn, and as with anything in life, things constantly change. So just when we think we know it all—lol—it’s different again. Well, I guess that’s why we need the change!
Mike, Angie and many of your District Staff, Chapter Directors, MECS and just good ole workers put on a super terrific, fun filled time at our yearly Convention (Rally) in the Valley in Salem Virginia. Hope everyone enjoyed all the activities that were planned –the pumpkin carving; square dancing; light show; table decorations; the skits were great, camper decorating contest, along with the bike shows, training programs, the drill team, parade and two nice rides to Paint Bank were well attended. The baskets donated by the chapters were just the greatest, a lot of thought and time went into those, and the members there were all hoping that they had the winning ticket for several of them. The quilt was beautiful and also had a good number of tickets purchased, many hoping to take that home too!
Dennis and Kristen Weston the District Chapter Couple for 2011,and also the Chapter Couple of the Year Coordinators; did a wonderful job preparing all the participants for the selection process, as well as getting all the Chapter Couple together. We had four couples that were part of the selection process. Tom and Gayle Wilson of Chapter ‘Y’ were the couple selected to represent the Virginia District for the year 2012. Welcome to the District Tom and Gayle! They have already contacted us with the desire to contact all the chapter couples, maybe have a relaxed get together, were they will all be able to get to know one another better. We are also very fortunate that Dennis and Kristen Weston have agreed to stay on as the District Couple of the Year Coordinator for the year 2012. That way Tom and Gayle will have some great people to help them along the way this year. We would like to encourage each chapter to look within, and honor a special couple that has served their chapter with excitement, fun and a dedication to their home chapter as their new Chapter COY
CR and I would like to again remind you that if your Chapter is participating in the Chapter of the Year Program, please make sure to accumulate and document your points throughout the year. This will help you stay on top of things. If you have any questions on this program, please get in touch with Bill Rodgers, Director of Chapter Y and the Coordinator for the Chapter of the Year.
Congratulations to Greg Kestner and Chapter E of Fredericksburg for being the Winner of the Year 2011-2012, he won the monthly contest this past year 3 times! Congratulations also go out to Rose Hines and Chapter ‘R’ of Harrisonburg, the winner for the Newsletter Contest for the Month of October-Way to go Rose!--Randy and Linda Jackson continue to judge our newsletters, and still seem to think that our District is putting out some really good material. We would like to thank all the newsletter editors, and all the chapters for putting forth so much good material and interesting reading this past year. It has been a pleasure to be a part of this program. Good luck to each and everyone for the final selection of the best for the year.
Our recruiting contest this past year was a great success. We had over 145 new members added to the Virginia District. Durwood Harrison and Bob Karnes (both of Chapter K) and Chapter K won the recruiting contest for the year 2011-2012. This past year we gave out a monetary award. For the year 2011-2012 we will be giving as an award a year’s membership in GWRRA and a light weight jacket with the 10” GWRRA logo patch on the back, embroidered above that will be embroidered Recruiter of the Year, and their name will be embroidered on the front. The winning Chapter will receive the following years chartering fee. For the most up to date information that we have right now, you may check out the R&R recruiting count that is listed under our MED section of the Virginia District WEB.
There have been some changes to the ARL report. The chapters within the District will be receiving the entire District Area Report; (instead of the 7 chapter within your area). The monthly hot sheets will be the same, with Les highlighting your new and prospective members assigned to your chapter. If there are multiple chapters in a close area, then more than one chapter may make contact. If a new member is not highlighted any chapter may make contact. Les Warren will still be with us as the R&R Coordinator (don’t know what we would do without him). If you have any questions concerning this please contact Les. We still ask each Chapter Director, or MEC that is sent this information, to please get in touch with these members as soon as possible,(personal contact preferred) and to send back to Les, whether or not you were able to make contact, and the status of that member. The Region wants these reports back shortly after they are sent out.
Will end this message with the hopes that many have enjoyed a wonderful year visiting other chapters and this beautiful state that we live in; and that this winter when the cold winds blow, that you will be putting even more events on you to do list for the up-coming riding season in 2012!
And with that we will wish you all a Wonderful Holiday season—it is that time already! -----------CR and Diane
