Wayne and Kathy re-met at their 15th year class reunion, dated for only three months (every day) and have now been married for over 20 years. They have 'his, hers and ours' that include 4 kids and 8 grandchildren. Jonathan came along as a surprise after they'd been married for 3 years and has been their shadow ever since. Their love of the outdoors have them not only riding motorcycles but includes camping, hiking, fishing, hunting and 'cutting/splitting firewood'. Wayne and Kathy Whitworth (and of course their son Jonathan) are the now former Chapter Directors of VA-K in Roanoke even tho they live in Bedford. Each are avid riders, with Waynes ride being a frost beige 1986 Aspencade 1200 SE-i (Special Edition fuel injection model), Kathy's a pearl green 1996 1500 SE and Jonathan usually found on his (Hokie) Maroon 1984 Honda V30 Magna.
They love riding and hanging out and camping on the Blue Ridge Parkway which is only about 15 miles from their home. Wayne started riding 2-wheelers at the age of 8, then to street bikes at 18. After over 200,000 miles and a few spills, he's still loving it. Kathy decided to learn to ride her own right before she turned 50. After a little over 4 years of riding and 40,000 miles, she's not about to quit anytime soon. Kathy loves riding her 1500 and rode on 16 Chapter rides in 2009 not including Ice Cream runs. Not much slows her down, except having to show up at work which she usually does on her bike. Jonathan was only 18 months old when Wayne took him for his first motorcycle ride on his 81 Honda 750 Custom (full dressed) and Jonathan was hooked. When Wayne bought his GoldWing from Kathys brother, Jonathan settled in as co-rider and photographer. With much anticipation Jonathan obtained his motorcycle learners at 15y6months after several years of planning and practice and has added over 18,000 miles in 2 years of riding on his V30. He even has several hundred riding Wayne's GoldWing and another hundred riding his Mom's 1500. So it's safe to say they are more than fair weather riders.
Their GWRRA experience has been totally as a family. Wayne and Kathy had served as Chapter K Couple, VA-K Assistant Chapter Directors and then Chapter Directors with Jonathan right alongside. All three have completed the Horizons Program, Officer Certification Program, are certified Road Captains and are Master Level IV riders. All have completed riding courses recently including an ERC. Wayne is certificated as a Leadership Training Instructor and certified Bike Show Judge. Jonathan stays busy working on several Chapter websites and newsletters when he's not working on computers. They can be found at most Region N District Rallies and especially at Wingless Weekend and Rally In The Valley. At the rallies you will find Wayne at the Bike Show, Jonathan trying to win at the games and Kathy shopping for safety chrome. They love not only attending GWRRA Rallies but also other chapters gatherings and events around VA and neighboring states as well. They've started visitation bars for NC, SC and recently rode to PA to visit a couple of chapters there.
Wayne works as an Architect in designing High end custom homes and commercial property while Kathy oversees the shipping department for Smythe Companies, printers of many name brand product labels. As they continue to travel and make new friends in GWRRA they look forward to being an asset in representing the Virginia District.
